The House Flies have returned with Sweet Foxhound, a thunderous post-punk track that marks the band’s first release since their highly regarded 2024 album Mannequin Deposit. If the previous album hinted at something dark and captivating, Sweet Foxhound pulls you deeper into their eerie, shadow-drenched world. The track is a masterclass in controlled chaos, where atmosphere and aggression meet in a whirlwind of raw energy. Alex Riggen’s guitar work is a dense, swirling fog that’s as hypnotic as it is jagged, setting the stage for a track that feels both urgent and unsettling. His vocals, echoing with a spectral quality, float above the mix like a haunting whisper, drawing you into a trance that’s impossible to break.

At the core of Sweet Foxhound lies the rhythm section, which drives the track with an almost relentless force. Nick Pompou’s drumming is intense and percussive, providing the necessary propulsion for the song to surge forward. His pounding beats lock in seamlessly with Ozzie Woods’ bass, which pulses and throbs with an infectious low-end groove that anchors the entire track. Together, they create an inescapable groove that you can’t help but surrender to. Every beat, every thrum of the bass, seems to push the track into new territory, heightening the track’s menacing energy and making it impossible to look away.

What elevates Sweet Foxhound to another level is the addition of second guitarist Burnie Eckardt (of Dynoride fame), making his official studio debut with this track. His presence is immediately felt as his layers of gritty texture bring an added ferocity and depth to the track. His guitar lines add a new dimension, giving the song a darker, more expansive feel that perfectly complements the band’s already intense sound. You can hear the chemistry between the band members, a result of the months spent touring together, as their playing is tighter than ever. Every note feels deliberate, every moment electric, as if the band is locked in a single, volatile pulse.

If Sweet Foxhound is any indication, The House Flies are gearing up for something even darker and heavier on their next album. The track serves as a perfect bridge, connecting the moody, melodic sensibilities of Mannequin Deposit to a more abrasive, raw edge that the band is clearly ready to explore. The House Flies have always thrived on their ability to mix atmosphere with aggression, but Sweet Foxhound proves that they’re now in a league of their own. With this new single, they’re pushing rock music into its next gear, taking no prisoners in the process. Get ready The House Flies are just getting started.
