Causing A Commotion, Dublin-born, London-based artist The New Citizen Kane (aka Kane Luke) reaffirms his role as one of the most inventive voices shaping alternative pop today. Known for blending theatre roots, sharp production craft, and a flair for multi-sensory storytelling, Kane continues to expand his artistry far beyond music alone. His latest release doesn’t just introduce new songs it unveils another chapter in a career defined by transformation, reinvention, and boundless creativity.
Since his debut single Remedy back in 2014, The New Citizen Kane has steadily built a catalogue that moves fluidly across styles while always remaining strikingly personal. After resurfacing with Endless Summer Serenade and following it with the autobiographical The Tales of Morpheus, he marked a turning point that closed one era and launched him into a new frontier. Causing A Commotion arrives as the bridge toward that frontier, teasing the grander vision of Psychedelika, his upcoming multi-part project combining sound, film, design, and immersive performance.
The EP’s title track, Causing A Commotion, anchors the release with shuffling rhythms, vibrant production, and instantly memorable hooks a song that radiates colour and movement while showing Kane’s ear for crafting unforgettable pop cuts. Alongside it, Subconscious offers a dizzying rush of attraction wrapped in a stomping disco-pop package, while Bubble Gum Hot adds a bittersweet nostalgic groove. San Diego (Synthphonica Radio Mix) slows the pace with mellow electronic textures and soulful delivery, balancing the collection with contrast and depth.
By closing with an alternative take on fan-favourite Ratbag Joy, The New Citizen Kane rounds out an EP that celebrates both reinvention and continuity. Causing A Commotion is more than a standalone release it’s an entry point for new listeners, a treat for long-time fans, and a preview of the expansive world Kane is set to unveil with Psychedelika. Bold, vibrant, and endlessly imaginative, it proves that The New Citizen Kane is still just getting started.
